Settling for less
"We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."
-C.S.Lewis
"Earth is crammed with heaven,
and every common bush afire with God;
but only he who sees takes off his shoes.
The rest sit around it and
Pluck blackberries."
-Elizabeth Barret Browning
I want to have the eyes to see the burning bushes, instead of settling for mud pies. I want to see the Holy all around, and realize what I'm missing by just playing in the slums or plucking blackberries. I want to take off my sandals in worship in my ordinary, everyday places, because I can see what God is doing there, here, now.
