Here's something new I'm trying:
There's this search engine called Scour that has users rate the search results as they view them. The engine seems to pull search results from Yahoo, Google and MSN, and beside each result, lets the user know where the link ranked for each search engine. The interesting catch: if you're logged in, as you rate sites, you earn points. When you reach a (fairly high) number of points, you earn a $25 VISA gift card.
I don't usually go for stuff like this, but, because I do a fair amount of web searching, and because clicking next to a result as I browse to indicate whether it was a good match or not isn't hard, and because the results are coming from a search engine I'd use anyway, and because I'm interested to see if the minds of the masses will actually improve anything, I'm giving it a try. We'll see how it goes. I don't expect I'll race to the 6500-point threshold very quickly.
Wanna try it out too? Sign up here.
What will you search for? personalized gifts? new sports equipment? Hawaii vacation deals? What I wonder is, if I use don't the exact same search terms as another person, will their votes affect my results at all?
