For lots and lots and lots of reasons. Here is one.
He decided a while ago he wanted to take up woodworking. We had both decided long ago we hated the Target bookshelf we have. His first project? A bookshelf, made from real wood, not the cardboard-and-formica of our current one. And such a nice color! And real wood! and made by my husband!
Did I mention he's amazing? More on that later.

Awesome job Josh!! You can come the house anytime and get started on ours for the study :-)
Very, very cool. It looks like a really nice, well-crafted piece of furniture...real furniture.
Can I ask about the materials? Wood species and whatnot?
Yes, he is very amazing. I love the shelf space.
That's awesome!! Does he want to start on an ottoman/bench next?? O=)
Brett-
Joanna asked me to answer cause she wasn't sure. The sides are 2x10 pine and the shelves are 1x10. I didn't use the nice project wood because of our budget, so they're just the cleanest boards I could find in the lumber yard.
That is beautiful!
He did a really good job. I think it's cool when you can look at a piece that is made just for you.
Wow...that really is just beautiful
It turns out that I need bedroom furniture. Piles of clothes don't really work for me anymore. And those shelves are FANTASTIC.
Looks great! I'm impressed.
That is so cool! Can he come over and teach my husband? :)
I love your wooden book shelf. What a wonderful thing that he made it for you!
