An Unexpected Phenomenon

Last week, an unexpected thing happened. I separated the series of photos from my Chicago trip about the Batman shoot out from the rest of the Chicago pictures, uploaded them early, and did a separate post about them. It was fun. Because I knew that there were others besides my regular readers that would be more interested in the pictures, I found a fan site for Batman and submitted the link there on a whim, not really expecting much to come of it, but feeling like I did them a good service. When I did that, my traffic graph for the previous month looked like the one below. I had just had a record week, thanks to hosting Make It From Scratch- with over 100 visitors on the same day! (I know, not that impressive... but I was excited!)

Well, just 20 minutes after I submitted the link to the fan site, the post was bombarded. I had no idea that a world of ravenous Batman fans existed out there, or that any of these pictures were that exciting. Before I knew it, people weren't only coming from the first fan site, but a Superhero Hype forum, a blog in Spanish, another movie news blog, and a blog in German. The pictures started a buzz about whether Christian Bale was in the pictures, the color of Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart)'s hair and tie, whether he & Rachel Dawes will be dating, etc. When I titled the post 'Starting Internet Rumors' I was kidding. I guess I didn't know what I had...

Anyway, the post promptly had visitors streaming in like I've never seen. I was really, really glad I wasn't paying for my own bandwidth. The day maxed out at 2,283 visitors, according to Google Analytics. People continue to trickle in, but we're closer to being back to some semblance of normal around here. Thanks to my normal visitors for hanging in there.

What I don't get: over 2,000 people come by, and only two comments are left? So weird...

That's terrific. As a member of the comic book geek world, I personally thank you for the pictures.

For what it's worth, the local Ashley Furniture store had a promotional thing going over the weekend that involved a visit from a guy dressed up as Batman and a replica of the 1960s TV Batmobile. I took pictures of my 6-month-old son sitting in the Batmobile. I can't wait to see what happens to the traffic on my blog once I post those.

I actually heard about the Ashley Furniture event, but didn't make it there.

You could start an internet rumor too- make up a story about The Son of Batman working into the next movie, and then brace yourself for the traffic!

I'm leaving a comment because I know how much I like to get comments on my blog too! Have a great day!

Oh I'm glad you got some traffic from hosting. I guess our little carnival doesn't rank with superheroes though!
