Off to the Windy City

I don't feel like we're going to the Windy City- or, rather, I can't imagine it being any windier than it is here. Since yesterday morning, the wind's been steadily blowing at 25-30 MPH. It's taken the bite off the 90 degree temperatures yesterday- this morning, leaving for work early, it was already 80! My tomato plants flopped over the side of the balcony in protest to the heat and wind. I defiantly tied them upright.

So, tomorrow's the big trip. We meet the bus at about 9:30 am, and have the afternoon & evening to wander the streets of Chicago before heading to our hotel for the night. We have all Sunday morning and afternoon to see the sights, too, before boarding the bus at 6-something. I'm so glad we're avoiding parking and driving in the crazy traffic that is Chicago. I'll give you a report on how it all goes when I return. I'm going to have a TON of pictures. We all know I love to take pictures.

So what sights will we see? Navy Pier has been on the list from the start, but we've already visited the Sears Tower and John Hancock buildings, so what else to do? I googled "June 9 Chicago" to see if there was anything special and of interest going on in the city... lo and behold, we just happened to pick the weekend that is the Chicago Blues Festival! And it's free! We couldn't ask for a better coincidence. We hope to spend Saturday listening to music & people watching at this huge event. Sunday, we'll see how the day goes, but visiting a Willow Creek downtown campus and checking out Navy Pier are the primary things on the list.

It'll be an adventure!

I'm actually not going to Chicago this weekend (I'm going to Detroit). I've been there the past two weekends.

The Shedd Aquarium is suppose to be neat, but potentially very busy on the weekend.

Me, I like to stay around the Plainfield, Joliet, Shorewood area. :)

Josh wanted to go to the Shedd Aquarium, and we looked into it...

Chicago Blues Festival: Free.
Willow Creek: Free.
Walking around Navy Pier: Free.
Shedd Aquarium: $25 x 2 adults = $50

We're going to keep it as a possibility, but it's not at the top of the list anymore. A week from Sunday, admission will be free, and the Museum of Science & Industry had free admission June 3rd through today. We picked the wrong weekend for our budget vacation to Chicago. :)
