Pears galore

So, I mentioned earlier that we came upon free pears on the side of the road, and helped ourselves to plenty because I had promised to make a pie. I also mentioned that these seemed like very large pears, and we grabbed quite a hefty plastic-shopping-bag-full.

Last night was my pear-pie baking evening, and my mom came over to help out, because the most time-consuming part is peeling and slicing the silly things. Well, we got started peeling and slicing, and we got through about a third of the pears and realized we already had accumulated the 6 cups of fruit called for by the recipe. I didn't have anything else to do with the fruit, so I told my mom to keep peeling and slicing while I made the first pie. By the end, we made 2 pies and had plenty left over to cook in cinnamon and sugar for a yummy treat. The first pie went to Josh's work, the second to my mom for all her help. I kept the cooked pears and had some fro breakfast this morning :)

And, after all of that, I'm out of brown sugar. And pears, thankfully.

I posted the recipe LAST TIME you asked for it, 2 posts ago :) Here it is again, from Foodgeeks:

Pear Crumb Pie

Servings: 6 to 8 servings
Prep. Time: :45
Total Time: 1:55
Ingredients:
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/8 tsp. salt
1 dash ground nutmeg
6 cups thinly sliced peeled pears
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 unbaked 9-inch pastry shell

Topping:
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup cold butter or margarine

Directions:
Combine filling ingredients; spoon into pasty shell. Bake at 400°F for 25 minutes. For topping, combine flour and brown sugar; cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over filling. Bake 40 minutes longer. Cover edges with foil if necessary.

Joanna's Note: The topping is hard to make than the recipe makes it sound. My mom made it fro one pie, and I did for the other, and if took both of us upwards of 10 minutes to stir it enough to get it "crumbly"

FIVE months, thank-you-very-much :)

Time flies, doesn't it?

Hahha whoops I was thinking you got married a month before me, but no it's two months. :-) Sorry about that. I hate making stupid mistakes like that (it's the perfectionist in me).

Yes, time really does fly. Did you ever get the picture I sent you a few weeks ago?

I did get the picture you sent me, thanks very much, it was neat. I think I saw that frame at Target!

That's where I bought the frame. :-) I was really excited about the find.
