Half of July

Is two Fourths a half? Maybe I had a half of July this weekend, because it felt like I had two Fourths.
On the 4th of July, I went to church with my family, ate lunch, then headed to Lebanon, IN to meet Josh, his Dad, and brother for a classic small-town America 4th of July celebration. Now, Lebanon isn't a 'small town' in the truest sense of the word, it has 14,000 people in it, but it's got a small-town feel to it. It's a cute place. Anyway, we went to the parade through downtown, complete with Boy Scouts, church floats, firetrucks, and high school bands. Classic. And then, we went to the big town park and walked through the little fair rides they had set up. We rode the ferris wheel- my favorite. We went to his house when we were done with the fair and went to fly a kite in his backyard. It was a pretty impressive kite- shaped like an airplane and heavier than your average kite, so harder to get off the ground. We were successful, though! The day ended with the classic 4th-of-July cookout and a fireworks show in town.
And then, deja-vu the next day! I started the day with the Carmel parade, which didn't have the same small-town feel to it, but still had Boy Scouts, fire trucks, church floats, and high school bands, along with possibly every anchorperson in Indiana and the National Spelling Bee Champion. There was a high school steel drum band in the Carmel parade, that was my favorite part. My favorite part of the Lebanon parade, however was a guy riding a Segway! The guy was dressed like a woman, I can't figure out why. I was really excited to see one. No one else knew why I was excited. Anyway, after the parade, we went to my house and had the classic cookout again. I ate too many cheeseburgers this weekend, really. Then, the day ended going to Carmelfest and watch a (much bigger) fireworks show.
All-in-all, it was a good couple days. Sunday definitely ranked as my favorite Fourth of July in memory. Quality family-and-friends times, for sure.
